Lyme Disease
As someone who has been treated for Lyme disease, I know first hand the effects it has on the body, lives and relationships of the individual. In a process of healing, I use my art practice to understand and express the illness as I regain my health. The work includes fabric, embroidery, fur, wax, wood, clay, metal and watercolor as mediums. A series of embroidery hoops with wax, fur and thread reference the bulls-eye rash and animals connected as carriers of Lyme disease. Watercolor paintings with media added to the surface express the individual’s experience, both mentally and physically. I am at the point of expanding the project to include the stories of others who have dealt with the disease, through connecting with support groups, fundraisers and practitioners who treat the disease.
